Description
After learning that Oscar Wilde used to wear green carnations, I decided I wanted to capture the feeling of being a queer person in what often feels like a very rigid and hostile world. ‘Wildeman’ aims to critique gender conformity that is increasingly reinforced in our society. Using only queer-coded flowers (lavender, pansies, violets and green carnations) and painting one green carnation ‘bursting out’ of the suit aims to pay homage to all queer people, past and present, who dare(d) to live and love outside of the ‘normal’.
